Snowed In, but Still Answering Questions…

Well, this week has been interesting.  We’re located in the New York City suburbs, and we’ve just been hammered this week with weather. Our apologies if you’ve posted requests to us, but our team is in some cases snowbound and in some other cases actually without power.  We had about 15 questions backed up on the “Questions” section of the blog, which we just answered, but if you’ve made requests for assistance for an agent, we might not have been able to collect it.  We’ll do it as soon as we can.

In the meantime, keep the questions coming.  To date, we’ve answered almost 140 questions about the Home Buyer Tax Credit on this blog, in about 40 days since we went live.  We’ll keep answering as long as we keep getting them.

Stay warm, everyone…

  1. I’ve heard a rumor that Congressman Eliot Engel (of NY’s Bronx district) has proposed legislation (HR 4701) to amend the tax code to allow married couples to benefit by getting half of the tax credit. But I’ve had trouble confirming it. Do you know anything? Granted you are snowed in, but this guy is in your neighborhood!

    Thanks,

I stumbled upon your blog by accident, trying to confirm my fears that this tax credit is slanted against married couples. Ridiculous. I purchased my home around July 2004; my husband has never owned a home. I should be able to take advantage of the repeat homebuyer’s credit; he should, of the first time buyer credit. We want to get a different house, our first one we can pick out together. I think that’s kinda romantic, and the $6500 or $8000 would sure help a lot! Not fair. Thanks for letting me vent, and for the work you are doing.

  3. I’ve lived in my townhouse for 6yrs and my now wife (married 10/03/09) has lived with me the whole time. Now since shes not on the title does this mean I wouldnt qualify for the $6500 tax credit? And could we try and say we were common-law married for the whole 6yrs, would that make any difference?

    • Hi @Scott, thanks for posting. We still have not gotten confirmation from the IRS as to whether the “Marriage Penalty” applies in these types of circumstances, but we hope to have information soon.
